Who needs to learn to code? Probably everyone
You don’t need a degree in Computer Science to code. In fact, some of the better coders out there have degrees in literature and languages. I studied English Lit at University and then spent twenty years as a chef! Here’s the proof.
It’s never too late to learn code – and learning, just like any language, makes you literate – and adds another skill that might just translate into earnings. Computational thinking can aid problem solving and help with understanding large amounts of information.
Computers aren’t going away any time soon – how do they work? How do the apps on your smartphone operate? What is behind that website you are always scrolling through?
You don’t need to dedicate your life to code – you can add it to your existing skills. Learning a language like python or even basic html could make your future job easier while offering an interesting learning opportunity today. Think of it this way – do you play golf? Do you enjoy cooking? You are probably not a pro golfer nor a celebrity chef; but these activities add to your life experience, and who knows? Maybe you turn pro one day.
Lifelong Learning is a Good Thing
Who needs to learn to code? Probably everyone. Like reading, if you learn to read you can read to learn. There are countless platforms online offering free coding courses. Codeacademy is our favourite. Even learning some HTML is fun and may come in handy – even if you’re only interested in being found in Google.
Learning another skill either in school, or outside of work keeps your brain nimble and may help you land a better job, or make you more employable. And, it’s fun!
