People have been blogging for a long time. I say ‘people’ because, with the rise of artificial intelligence, it probably won’t be long before AI bots are producing blogs. Perhaps they already are.
I started blogging in 2006, but the first blog is attributed to Justin Hall back in 1994. Today there are more than 600 million blogs online publishing 6 million posts every day.
WordPress, the CMS that runs this, and millions of other websites, got its start as a blogging tool too.
In the world of blogging, content creators (like myself) struggle to stand out and gain loyal readers. We share our content on social media platforms like medium.com and blogger.com. If we’re foodies, we might share our recipes on YouTube, and we even write cookbooks.
Why do we do this? Because creating is our passion – content is our passion. Unfortunately, given the fickle nature of search engine algorithms, a lot of quality content often remains obscured from potential readers.
So, how can we get our work found? In addition to sharing on social media platforms, writing books, and fine-tuning our SEO skills, we can write guest blog posts.
What is Guest Blogging and Why is it Important?
Talk shows would be boring without any guests, right?
Guest blogging involves posting on another’s website to gain a backlink and greater exposure. It presents a mutually beneficial arrangement, but what makes it valuable for us as blog owners and content creators? Three things off the top of my head are:
- + we can make connections over and above following each other
- + sharing our interests with like-minded authors
- + giving your audience content in more than one voice
Guest blogging is an ingenious solution to the hurdles of content marketing. When bloggers write and share their content on someone else’s platform, it has many unique advantages, one of the most important is simply giving another writer breathing space.
Where can you meet like-minded people with whom to share content? Social media of course!
I had the pleasure of meeting ChefSarah on Twitter the other week.
Sarah is, like me, a digital marketer and chef from Canada. She even took my chocolate bacon truffle recipe and adapted it to her own taste by using coconut milk instead of cream.
That’s sharing. That’s content creation! :o) I’m sure we’ll share more together going ahead too.
Amplifying Your Voice: How Guest Blogging Expands Readership Beyond Current Followers
Engagement turns into a conversation which can result in a conversion
One of the most important benefits of guest blogging is that it helps writers reach a bigger audience by connecting with another, existing, fanbase. It allows their voice to be heard by more people, not just their current followers.
As Bridget Willard often reminds me: “There are no one-click sales. A conversion first requires a conversation – you have to engage with people!”
Sharing content and expertise is just one of the benefits of guest blogging for both hosts and guest authors in building a broader readership. The benefits of guest blogging aren’t simply attracting more free readers, you can also attract customers.
Buffer.com is a great example. They gained 100,000 paying customers in nine months simply by adding guest blogging into their mix back in 2012. searchenginewatch.com
Enhancing SEO: The Role of Domain Authority and the Power of Guest Blogging
Sharing useful content to up your SEO game
Guest blogging can be a great strategy to increase domain authority and rise in search engine rankings too, as long as you’re attentive and professional. Create quality guest blogs for reputable websites with whom you have a connection. Don’t buy and sell space. And remember – it’s your host’s website, and as much their time to shine as yours.
Domain authority is a measure of a website’s credibility and relevance, developed by Moz. Bloggers can increase their site’s authority by writing for authoritative sites and securing backlinks. Moz offers a comprehensive guide to guest blogging and its importance in SEO. moz.com
“When it comes to domain authority, having engaging and informative content is the foundation. Think of it as a delicious recipe – it should leave our audience craving for more.”

It’s good to point out that Domain Authority is not a Google creation. When asked about DA over the years, Google has always denied it is a ranking factor. searchenginejournal.com
Another core component of SEO, backlinks play a role in determining a site’s ranking. Guest blogging is a legitimate strategy to share helpful content between sites. Just be careful of the spam backlinks.
Guest Blogging: Building Bonds and Strengthening the Digital Community
Guest blogging is content that gets you ahead!
Even with the interest in using AI tools for content creation, the people behind the words are still very important. Nowhere is this more true than in guest blogging.
Blogging fosters collaboration and camaraderie among content creators. It goes beyond the metrics and politics of “helpful content”. Allowing space on our websites for collaborative content helps creators share ideas, and build our digital communities, making our online world more dynamic and interconnected.
